Softball Practice Tips
  • PLAY SAFE – ONLY 1 CHILD HAS A BAT

  • WARM-UP THROWS

  • BASE RUNNING SKILLS

    1. Each player takes turns starting at home, running the bases, remembering to TOUCH each base and keep in the base line

    2. Remind players that they cannot run outside the lines if someone is trying to tag them out

    3. After they hit the ball, remind players to watch WHERE they have hit it, HOW far they can run around the bases without getting out… just teach running smarts…!

  • HITTING THE BALL SKILLS

    1. Practice correct swing/stance – no bat needed – visualize

    2. Understand what a foul ball is

    3. Understand that in the game they will get 5 pitches (Class A only) before getting out

    2. Catching grounders…how to get behind the ball and scoop up and throw

    4. Infield bat skills…understand where to throw the ball, how to tag, keeping a foot on the base when a ball is thrown to them, practice watching where the runner goes and where to throw
